Regardless of whether you're the ideal audience for this movie or not, I would have loved to watch it with you:)

I have no doubt that it's a good movie - the question is am I a good audience?

As I've said already: Wisdom comes with age :)

Seriously, though, I'm convinced you would like it a lot more if you saw it again, just wait for the time and the mood to be right. I constantly debate whether I could be the one who's wrong on this one, but my admiration for the movie only heightens every time I see it.

I was frustrated with the movie the first time around. I think I just wasn't in the right mindset at the time. His gradual lowering into madness was so intense. I could recognize it was art... but I wasn't ready to go where it was taking me. Also, when we watch movies at home, I tend to fall asleep. I'm pushing 30, you know.

Thank you so much, Bryan. Yeah, Into the Wild continues to be a really powerful, and strangely inspiring, experience to me. I've never been much of a nature explorer myself, for perhaps obvious reasons, but this movie stimulated me on so many levels. It's intellectually ambitious - if not flawless - but unlike many movies who share that quality, it is also a beautifully conceived, and distinctly cinematic, picture. There are examples of self-proclaimed 'important' movies that would have made for eminently interesting panel discussions - like 'Lions for Lambs', 'Doubt', 'Maria Full of Grace', 'The Reader' etc - but that nevertheless came off as lacking both the intellectual curiosity and honesty, and the awareness of the great storytelling opportunities that lies in film as such a wonderfully rich and expressive art form.

(Enough with the rambling. Maybe the Alaska images prompted me to channel Palin's cringe-inducing June 3 announcement or something)

You're the poet, so I guess I'll just have to say thanks.

But what did you think about it? There's always good reason to rewatch ITW, but did you like it the first time around? (Sorry if that sounds too much like 'How was your first time?' How might not this sound to outsiders? Oh, dear ;)

I'm sitting here with a smile on my face because your love for this movie is so evident. It's clear that it stris something magical in you. It makes me happy that it makes you happy - and it makes me want to watcht his movie again.

What you've written here? It's poetry.
